Firing the Whale: Nic Polotnianko Drops a $10K MRR Customer Over ToS Violations
Indie builder Nic Polotnianko shared a brutal but necessary "build in public" reality check: he had to fire his biggest customer. The user was single-handedly bringing in over $10,000 in monthly recurring revenue for his email marketing tool, Sequenzy, but was actively violating the platform's Terms of Service. The decision caused a massive 61.84% plunge in total revenue, dropping the MRR down to $6,083.02. Despite the massive financial hit, Nic called the move a "liberating experience," noting that they are still organically growing by $800 MRR and the product is in its best state yet.
